Why TotalDrop needs donations
TotalDrop is free for everyone and stays that way: no ads, no premium tier, no investors, no data to sell. Some things still cost money. This page lists every one of them, so you can see exactly what a donation pays for.

If the relay grows
Most transfers connect directly and cost nothing. The ones that cannot go through the relay. If it needs more speed, Cloudflare Realtime TURN carries them over UDP close to each user: the first 1,000 GB a month are free, then 0.05 USD per GB. Donations will pay for this as traffic grows.
| Relayed traffic a month | Per month | Per year |
|---|---|---|
| 1 TB | 0 USD | 0 USD |
| 5 TB | 200 USD | 2,400 USD |
| 10 TB | 450 USD | 5,400 USD |
| 20 TB | 950 USD | 11,400 USD |
The big one: an independent security audit
TotalDrop promises that nobody in between can read your files. A promise like that should be checked by people who did not write the code. Before version 1.0, an independent firm will review the protocol, the cryptography and the code that handles untrusted input, and the full report will be published.
Audits of this kind are priced in tens of thousands of dollars; published quotes for similar work go as high as 64,000 USD. We expect 20,000 to 60,000 USD, depending on the firm and the scope. Version 1.0 waits for it.
How the money is handled
- Donations go through GitHub Sponsors, once or every month.
- They pay only for the costs on this page. When a cost is added or changes, this page changes first.
- Every month we publish what came in and where it went, here and in the project's repository.
- A donation buys no features, no priority and no influence over the app. Everyone gets the same TotalDrop.
